Optimize the Detector Concept

with MC Simulations

The PEBS experiment uses a super-conducting magnet which generates in a  volume of 0.8m**3 a magnetic field of 0.8 Tesla. Inside this volume a high precision scintillating fiber tracker  measures the trajectories of charged particles at 16 planes with a precision of 40 micron per plane. These precision measurements determine

particle momentum and charge up to the 200 GeV scale. The offered Diploma-Thesis are focused on MC-Studies to optimize the detector concept and to compare MC results with measurements done with prototypes.

Develop the PEBS Physics Program

with MC Simulations

The nature of dark mater is one of the most important questions in fundamental physics. The neutralino is an excellent dark matter candidate. PEBS will measure cosmic ray electron and positron spectra with excellent precision. A discovery of an anomaly in the positron spectrum could be a clear indication for the annihilation of dark matter in our galaxy. The offered Diploma-Thesis are focused on MC-Studies and data analysis.
